My sister’s old phone  that she gave me is locked under Fido(Canada mobile network), I already have it unlocked so i was able to use it.  The downside of having a branded phone is that they restrict stuff like using mp3 as ringtone – you can only download tones from them.  So me, who loves customizing wasn’t too happy when I learned about it . Yes, there’s a way around it(according to the stuff i read online) by converting mp3 to .wav format that doesn’t exceed to 700kb or was it 600kb(i forgot!)…tried that but you can only do that with mp3 that has 10 sec. or less duration.

At the time when i got it, i have ringtones from Despicable movie, it worked…but as months went by i wanted new one and i got/wanted ringtones from the movie Tangled(coz i love and i’m a big fan of Mandy Moore). The duration of the song is a bit longer, converting to .wav format gives me more than 700kb file size, so it won’t work. I was itching to bypass the restrictions and i can only do that by unbranding/de-branding my phone but looking a way to do it  without spending any money, AND  it’s amazing how you can find stuff online *dance2x* and i found how to’s on  here.

I have no experience with flashing a phone coz it turns out i have to do it if i wanted to de-brand my phone. I have to download the original firmware which is RM-323 and use the image content from 6301(UK version) RM-322 I had to read and re-read 15 pages of that “how to” in the forum because i wanted to understand and make sure i’m doing everything right or else i’ll end up with a bricked phone and no one wants that. After 10 min. of heart racing i finally and successfully got my 6301b unbranded, no Fido logo when my phone starts up and YES! I can use ANY mp3 as a ringtone Yay!  Thank you to those people who’ve shared their skills and knowledge in that forum. Btw, I was holding my phone the whole time with my heartbeat pounding and praying no blackouts. lol!

Now  i’m happy and content with my phone. Lalalalala~~~
